Chapter 5 - The Stain

The stain was blood.

Caleb’s.

Laboratory testing confirmed it.

Not enough to tell the entire event.

Enough to show he had been injured in the living room.

The cleaning agent was a concentrated peroxide product stored beneath the kitchen sink.

Adrian’s fingerprints were on the bottle.

So were Caleb’s.

Normal household item.

Normal shared contact.

The meaningful evidence came from underneath the scrubbed area.

Blood had seeped between boards.

Cleaning reached the surface.

Not the gaps.

Forensics documented the direction and distribution carefully.

No wild television conclusions.

No:

He was struck exactly here by exactly this weapon.

What they could say:

Caleb bled there before the area was cleaned.

A nearby brass fireplace tool was taken for testing.

No useful blood.

No magic weapon.

The case would require more than a stain.
