Chapter 11 - Julian knew less than everyone assumed

I called Julian.

He came with counsel.

Good choice.

I asked:

“Did your mother tell you Grandfather selected you?”

“Yes.”

“When?”

“Since I was seventeen.”

“Did Victor ever say it?”

Julian hesitated.

“Not exactly.”

“What did he say?”

“That I should learn the business if I wanted opportunities.”

That sounded like Victor.

“Did you know about the male-line memorandum?”

“I saw a slide quoting it.”

“Did you see the original?”

“No.”

“Did you raise money?”

“No.”

“Did you make presentations?”

“Two.”

“What did you say?”

“That Mom expected me to have a future governance role.”

“Did you claim it was guaranteed?”

“No.”

Records later supported him.

Julian had been vain.

Ambitious.

Too willing to believe flattering information.

But investigators found no evidence he created the false document.

He was not charged.

Sometimes parents use their children in adult schemes while telling themselves they are building those children a future.
