Chapter 5 - Octavia had a son

Octavia’s son was Julian Crane.
Twenty-three.
Educated.
Polished.
Not a villain.
He had studied finance at Georgetown and recently joined an investment bank.
He was also Victor’s only adult male grandchild.
That fact mattered enormously to Octavia.
Far more than it mattered to Victor.
For years, she repeated:
“Julian carries the next generation.”
At Christmas.
At board dinners.
At charity events.
When Betsy was born, Octavia said:
“Beautiful. Now Silvio can try for a son.”
I answered:
“I already have a child.”
She laughed as though I had missed the point.
May you like
I had not.
She had.
