Chapter 12 - Betsy asks whether Julian stole her future

“No.”
I answered immediately.
Betsy looked disappointed by the simplicity.
“But she said he gets it because boy.”
“Octavia said that.”
“So he stole it.”
“No.”
“What do I get?”
“Right now?”
“Yes.”
“Homework.”
She stared at me.
Cruel parenting.
I explained:
“Grandpa’s company has rules about who might lead later. Nobody has promised you that job.”
“Can girls?”
“Yes.”
“Can boys?”
“Yes.”
“Can I say no?”
That stopped me.
“Absolutely.”
She brightened.
“Good.”
Why?
“I want to make cartoons.”
