Chapter 6 - The first strange memorandum

Three months before the gala, my general counsel, Naomi Pierce, found a document while preparing a refinancing diligence package.
Title:
Founder Succession Memorandum — Male Line Continuity
It stated that Victor wanted future control of the Founder Continuity Option to favor:
“a qualified male descendant bearing the Maddox bloodline or descended directly therefrom.”
That sentence was bizarre.
Our lawyers did not write like medieval heralds.
More importantly:
Victor’s signature appeared at bottom.
Date:
Five years earlier.
Naomi called me.
“Did you know about this?”
“No.”
“Did your father?”
“I’ll ask him.”
I did.
Victor read it.
Then said:
“I didn’t sign this.”
No confusion.
No:
I don’t remember.
He studied the signature.
“That’s mine copied from something.”
I asked:
“Are you certain?”
He glared.
May you like
“I may be seventy-six, Silvio. I have not accidentally become Henry the Eighth.”
That was my father.
