Chapter 11 - Kerensa stops protecting me from the truth

Kerensa had kept records.

Not secret recordings.

Texts.

Emails.

Calendar notes.

Because my family’s behavior had been getting worse for months.

Lenora:

The baby will need stability after delivery. Hadrian is too busy to manage nights.

Kerensa:

We have already discussed our plan with the pediatrician.

Lenora:

Doctors don’t understand family structure.

Another:

You should consider staying with your sister for the first month after birth. I can help Hadrian here.

Kerensa replied:

I will not leave my newborn.

Lenora:

You’re being dramatic.

Then my father.

He sent:

Your conflict with Lenora is putting Hadrian under enormous pressure.

Kerensa:

Then please tell her to stop trying to make decisions for our baby.

Graham:

You are the newer person in this family. Flexibility should come from you.

I read that twice.

Newer person.

My wife of four years.

Mother of my child.

Still probationary.

Then Kerensa looked at me.

“You knew they were difficult.”

“Yes.”

“You didn’t know how bad.”

“No.”

“You also didn’t want to know.”

That was true.

I hated conflict.

Not in business.

There I could fire executives and cancel contracts without blinking.

Family conflict was different.

I delayed.

Translated.

Smoothed.

Said:

May you like

“She means well.”

Those three words had cost my wife too much.
