Chapter 8 - Lenora’s charge

Lenora faced a separate misdemeanor assault charge and a pregnancy-related aggravating factor considered under state law, though prosecutors did not overstate intent.

Did she intend to hurt the fetus?

No evidence.

Did she intentionally kick a heavy suitcase into a visibly pregnant woman?

Yes.

Did Kerensa fall?

Yes.

Medical records corroborated impact and bruising.

No premature labor.

No fetal injury identified.

The prosecution did not claim attempted fetal homicide or any absurd charge.

Lenora pleaded not guilty.

Her attorney argued:

She intended to move the suitcase toward the garage door.

Kerensa stepped into its path.

Video made that difficult.

Then she changed explanation.

“She was trying to clear the driveway.”

Why kick it with that force?

No answer.

Then my father.

No criminal charge for the key or statement.

But Kerensa obtained a civil protective order barring Lenora from approaching or contacting her during the pregnancy while the case was pending.

My father was not included initially because he had not physically assaulted her.

Kerensa chose not to request a broader order.

She said:

I married well.
