Chapter 13 - My father removes me from succession planning

The company board meeting happened twelve days later.
My father announced:
“Hadrian will no longer participate in long-term succession discussions.”
Not fired.
Not stripped of shares.
Not removed as operating president.
Succession planning.
Symbolic.
Everyone knew why.
Board director Helen March asked:
“Is there a performance reason?”
“No.”
“Then what is the governance reason?”
My father said:
“Family confidence.”
Helen stared at him.
“This is a company, Graham.”
He hated that.
Then I said:
“I’m stepping out of the room for any discussion involving my future role.”
Good governance.
The independent directors discussed.
They refused to remove me from existing management responsibilities without cause.
My father still controlled enough votes to influence future board composition.
The conflict became active.
Not inheritance alone.
Company governance.
Then he sent me a private message:
Come home to the family and all of this stops.
I replied:

My home is with Kerensa.
No answer.
