Chapter 9 - Why the movers were there

The movers outside the garage were not there because I had secretly decided to evict my father without process.

They were there because he had signed a move-out agreement six weeks earlier.

Destination:

A luxury condominium he and Lenora had leased downtown.

Deposit paid.

Keys received.

Moving date scheduled.

He knew.

Lenora knew.

They simply did not want to go anymore.

Why?

My father’s finances had improved slightly.

He convinced himself he could buy the house back.

We discussed it.

I said:

“Not now.”

He heard:

Later.

Then Lenora learned Kerensa wanted to convert the west study into a nursery after they moved.

That triggered something.

She said:

“So she’s erasing us before we’re even gone.”

Kerensa had not even chosen paint.

Still, Lenora began referring to:

“My house.”

“My nursery.”

“My kitchen.”

Then she told my father:

“If we leave, Hadrian belongs to her completely.”

That became the emotional core.

The move-out was not about square footage.

It was about control.
