Chapter 23 - Ridgehaven Calls Me

Months later, Ridgehaven’s clinical director asked permission to speak with me.

I agreed.

She apologized for the confusion.

I told her:

“You didn’t cage my daughter.”

“No.”

“We also should have verified legal consent earlier.”

That was fair.

Their intake system had allowed extensive preliminary screening before confirming custody documentation.

They changed procedure.

Legal guardian verification moved earlier.

No family could progress to scheduled intake without signed authorization from all required decision-makers or a court order.

Would that solve every problem?

No.

But system improvement mattered.

I did not sue them.

My lawyers reviewed.

The facility had never admitted Pippa.

Never treated her.

Never knowingly bypassed me.

Their process had weaknesses.

They corrected them.

Enough.
