Chapter 18 - Daniel is not perfect either

Family assessment reviewed Daniel’s parenting.

He was protective.

Maybe overprotective.

He called Sophie frequently.

Sometimes answered school disputes too quickly.

He had once confronted a teacher directly instead of letting Sophie solve minor conflict.

Victoria was not entirely wrong that he rescued too fast.

The evaluator recommended:

Daniel encourage age-appropriate independence.

Not boarding school.

Not emotional withdrawal.

Sophie benefited from knowing he would answer.

Then Daniel admitted:

“I made being available part of my identity after divorce.”

Why?

Victoria had left marriage after accusing him of emotional absence during early career years.

He compensated.

Sometimes too much.

The court did not reward one parent by declaring the other flawless.

Daniel accepted parenting coaching.

That strengthened him.

Victoria dismissed assessment because it also criticized her.

That weakened her.
