Chapter 6 - Margaret had been documenting

Margaret had worked for my family nineteen years.

She did not secretly record bedrooms or invade privacy.

She kept household incident notes because Noah’s nanny schedule required handoffs.

Dates.

Meals.

Medication.

Behavior.

Visitors.

Over six months, entries involving Victoria increased.

Victoria requested Noah eat with staff during adult dinner. Raffaele overruled.

Victoria objected to Margaret sitting beside Noah at birthday rehearsal.

Victoria told Sophie not to “baby” Noah after he fell.

Sophie later apologized to Noah privately.

Victoria requested lake house pediatric records transferred. Not completed.

That last one mattered.

She had contacted Noah’s pediatric office.

Asked for medical record transfer to a clinic near lake house.

Did she have authority?

She was my fiancée.

Not Noah’s legal parent.

Office refused without my authorization.

Then Victoria told Margaret:

“After wedding, I won’t have household employees overruling me.”

Margaret answered:

“I don’t overrule you. Noah’s father does.”

Victoria:

“That will change.”

Why did Margaret not tell me?

She did.

Indirectly.

She said:

“Miss Hale is making plans for Noah.”

I answered:

“She plans everything.”

Dismissal.

I hated remembering it.

Then Margaret said:

“I should have been louder.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

May you like

“We both should have listened better.”

That was true.
