Chapter 13 - My slap

My own conduct went under review.
Tilly was behind security.
Clarissa was no longer attacking.
I climbed the stairs and struck her.
Retaliation.
My reputation did not excuse it.
If anything, prosecutors had reason to be especially careful about giving me preferential treatment.
I accepted:
Misdemeanor assault plea held under diversion structure.
Community service.
Violence-intervention counseling.
No contact with Clarissa except through legal process.
Successful completion:
Dismissal under the negotiated program.
People who feared me found the classes amusing.
I did not.
The counselor asked:
“Why did you hit her?”
“She kicked my daughter.”
“That explains anger.”
“Yes.”
“Not choice.”
May you like
No.
It did not.
