Chapter 23 - My sentence was not nothing

Because the offense was nonviolent and my cooperation in unrelated investigations was substantial, I did not receive decades.
I received:
Ten months in federal custody.
A financial penalty.
Three years supervised release.
Additional tax payment and interest.
I hated leaving Tilly.
She hated it more.
Before I reported, I told her:
“I did something illegal before.”
She stared.
“Like Ronan?”
“No.”
“Did you hurt somebody?”
“Not like that. But I broke laws.”
“Why?”
“Because I thought being powerful meant rules were negotiable.”
Tilly looked unimpressed.
“That’s dumb.”
May you like
“Yes.”
Children remain excellent sentencing consultants.
