Chapter 17 - The Siege of Genesis Pavilion

The helicopter touched down in a secluded clearing two hundred yards from the private facility. Rain poured from the pitch-black sky, hissing against hot engine metal.
Sebastian moved with lethal elegance. Flanked by four of his elite bodyguards, he led Claire through the treeline toward the low-slung, modernist glass-and-concrete clinic. The smell of burning rubber and ozone tainted the damp mountain air.
"Stay behind me," Sebastian commanded, shielding Claire with his broad frame as they breached the glass double doors of the lobby.
The interior was wrecked. Server racks had been ripped from the walls, computer monitors smashed to shards, and medical file cabinets torched with chemical accelerants. Someone had conducted a scorched-earth purge of the clinic's records.
"They knew we were coming," Dante muttered, sweeping the hallway with his weapon drawn.
"They didn't just purge," Claire said, her nurse's instincts kicking in as she smelled the distinctive chemical odor of liquid nitrogen. "The cryo-storage bay! Down the hall to the left!"
They hurried down the dark, strobe-lit corridor, stepping over shattered glass and broken vials. They reached the heavy blast doors of the cryogenic depository. The door had been pried open with a hydraulic jack. Inside, frost coated the walls, and the large stainless-steel tanks were venting cold white vapor onto the floor.
Claire rushed over to the main console, checking the digital logs that miraculously still flickered on backup battery power. Her fingers flew over the keyboard.
"The Miller account," Claire said, reading the screen as green text scrolled past. "It wasn't an automated trust, Sebastian. Someone manually accessed the vault eight months ago to authorize the surrogate transfer. And they took something else."
Sebastian stepped beside her. "What did they take?"
"There were three viable embryos created by your late wife and stored here," Claire said, turning to him with terror in her eyes. "Baby Miller was the first. But the log shows two more tanks were removed from cold storage just seventy-two hours ago."

Sebastian’s blood ran cold. "My children. There are two more of my children out there."
Suddenly, gunfire erupted from the lobby.
