Chapter 22 - Her sentence

The judge sentenced Evelyn to:
Five years total.
Two years suspended.
Three years to serve.
Supervised release afterward.
Restitution and financial penalties.
Restrictions on soliciting investments during supervision.
No contact with Maya or Chloe without family-court approval and their consent under the applicable orders.
People expected me to celebrate.
I didn’t.
She was my mother.
That did not make the sentence wrong.
It made it painful.
