Chapter 5 - Maya had tried to call me
My phone showed no missed calls from Maya.
That confused me.
Then she said:
“Your mother took my phone.”
Evelyn denied it.
One of the remaining guests slowly pointed toward the foyer console.
Maya’s phone was there.
Powered off.
I turned it on.
Four unsent messages sat in drafts.
The first:
Come home. Something is wrong.
The second:
Your mother is telling people you personally guaranteed the Crescent project.
The third:
She has papers with your signature.

The fourth never finished.
That was around the time the camera showed the confrontation.
