Chapter 21 - CELESTE MOVES ON
Celeste did not return to Corsini life.
No legal family claim.
No stepmother visitation order.
No social role.
After release and probation, she worked first in a small nonprofit administrative office.
Later in hotel events outside our region.
She completed counseling.
Paid what restitution and financial penalties applied to her role.
No public redemption tour.
Years passed.
At thirteen, Lucy asked:
“Where is Celeste?”
I told her.
Alive.
Working.
Not married again as far as I knew.
Then Lucy asked:
“Can I see her?”
My entire body said no.
I did not say it immediately.
“Why?”
“I want to know what she looks like now.”
That was not forgiveness.
Curiosity.
We discussed with therapist.
Eventually one structured meeting.
Public office.
No luggage.
No family estate.
Celeste arrived first.
Lucy walked in beside me.
Then told me:
“Wait outside.”
That almost killed me.
I did.
Sentry tower.
Remember?
The meeting lasted twenty-eight minutes.
Afterward Lucy came out.
“How was it?”
“She looks older.”
Fair.
Then:
“Do you want another?”

“Not now.”
