Chapter 17 - Amanda is indicted

Grand jury returned charges including:
Attempted grand theft.
Forgery/use of false instrument.
Conspiracy to commit theft.
Attempted fraudulent disposition of property.
Specific charges varied by items and conduct.
No burglary because no one had entered unlawfully yet.
No completed theft.
No money from buyers had been received.
Important.
Amanda pleaded not guilty.
Her defense:
She believed marriage and household-management authority gave her power to move items.
The authorization was a “presentation document,” not a forgery intended to deceive.
The objects would have been sold only after Daniel approved final consignment.
Messages contradicted some of that.
Especially:
Honeymoon gives us four clean days.
And:
Need liquidity immediately after Italy.
Then:
If Daniel sees the list before we’re away, we’re dead.
Not literally dead.

Finished.
The jury would understand context.
