Chapter 14 - Robert’s first explanation to police

At the chapel, police asked:

“Why do you have the ring?”

Robert said:

“It’s mine.”

“Where was it?”

“I found it at home.”

“When?”

He hesitated.

“After Amanda went to hospital.”

“Where?”

“Bedroom.”

I shouted:

“That’s a lie!”

Aunt Melissa put her hand on my shoulder.

The officer did not need my help.

He asked Robert:

“Can we see the ring?”

Robert eventually handed it over voluntarily after consulting counsel.

Later, forensic examination found nothing magical.

No secret fingerprint.

No poison.

No impossible scientific revelation.

It was simply Robert’s ring.

Its importance came from:

Where Amanda photographed it.

What Robert said about entering the utility room.

And his attempt to remove it from her belongings.
