Chapter 25 - I wrote Robert

When I was thirteen, Robert was still serving his sentence.
I wrote him a letter.
Not forgiveness.
Questions.
Did you know Mom found the ring before she collapsed?
He answered:
No.
He learned only after searching her purse.
Did you believe the house was safe?
His reply:
I believed what I wanted to believe because fixing it correctly created problems I did not want to face.
That was the most truthful sentence he ever gave me.
Then:
I would give everything to have chosen differently.
I believed him.
