Chapter 7 - Mom found the notice

Mom worked in commercial insurance.
She understood risk documentation.
One afternoon, she found a folded municipal correction notice in Robert’s office.
She asked:
“What is this?”
He said:
“Nothing serious.”
“It says the heating installation failed inspection.”
“It needs an adjustment.”
“Then why isn’t it fixed?”
“It will be.”
“When?”
“Monday.”
Monday came.
Nothing.
Mom called the inspector herself.
That caused the first major argument.
Robert:
“You went behind my back.”
Mom:
“I asked whether our house was safe.”
Robert:
“You’re making this sound worse than it is.”
Mom:
“Then fix it.”
He promised.
The next week, the inspector returned.
But according to later testimony, he could not complete the reinspection because access to part of the mechanical area had been changed and the responsible subcontractor was absent.

Another delay.
Then Robert did something he would regret for the rest of his life.
