Chapter 4 - Robert was my stepfather

Robert married Mom when I was six.
My biological father had left years earlier and lived across the country.
He called on birthdays.
Sometimes Christmas.
Robert was the adult who:
Took me to school.
Taught me to ride a bicycle.
Burned pancakes every Sunday.
Sat through two-hour dance recitals.
He never asked me to call him Dad.
I did sometimes anyway.
That fact became difficult later.
People wanted the story to become simple.
Robert bad.
Mom good.
Katie deceived.
But before everything happened, I loved him.
