Chapter 6 - Our heating system

Two months before Mom died, Robert had renovated the back half of our house.

New kitchen.

Laundry room.

Mudroom.

Heating modifications.

Harbor Ridge employees did some work.

A subcontractor named Summit Mechanical handled the heating equipment.

Or was supposed to.

Then Summit became unavailable.

Robert wanted the project finished before Thanksgiving.

So one of his own employees completed part of the mechanical work.

That employee was experienced.

But not properly licensed for everything he performed.

A municipal inspector later flagged a ventilation problem.

He issued a correction notice.

Not a catastrophe.

Fix it.

Reinspect.

Move on.

But Robert did not want a formal violation connected to Harbor Ridge while the assisted-living project was under final compliance review.

That was the first bad decision.
