Chapter 14 - Natalie’s Fiancé

Mark Ellison claimed he did not know the gift letter was false.

At first I did not believe him.

Then evidence supported him more than I expected.

Natalie told him:

“My family is helping with the down payment.”

He asked:

“Your parents?”

She answered:

“Rachel mostly.”

Mark had met me four times.

He assumed I agreed.

Why wouldn’t he?

People make large family gifts.

Especially wealthy families.

We were not wealthy.

But Natalie had spent years making us sound wealthier than we were.

When investigators showed Mark the recording, he ended the engagement within a week.

Natalie blamed me.

Naturally.

She texted through a number before a no-contact restriction was in place:

You cost me my house and my fiancé.

I forwarded it to counsel.

May you like

Did not reply.

Natalie had lost those things through decisions made before I knew the address of the property.
