Chapter 15 - Matthew Keene

Postnatal forensic testing later confirmed Matthew Keene as Adrian’s biological father with greater than 99.99 percent probability.

Matthew was forty-one.

Married.

Two daughters.

He had not known Adrian existed as potentially his.

Sabella had told him the pregnancy was definitively mine.

He believed her.

When counsel contacted him, his first response was disbelief.

Then fear.

Not of me.

Of what this would do to his family.

He agreed to independent testing.

Confirmed.

Now we had another problem.

Biological truth creates obligations, but not instant relationships.

Matthew did not become:

Dad

the next morning.

Adrian did not move houses.

Family court proceeded carefully.

Matthew’s wife knew.

His daughters learned later through a therapist.

Messy.

No one deserved the mess except perhaps the adults who had hidden uncertainty.

Even Sabella did not control all consequences anymore.

Truth had more people in it than she had planned.
