Chapter 22 - Adrian gets angry at me

Adrian’s anger took longer.
At ten, during a supervised family session, he said:
“You wanted me tested because you wanted me gone.”
“No.”
“Mom says trust made you.”
“The trust required documentation.”
“You signed.”
“Yes.”
“So you wanted.”
“I should have handled the process more carefully.”
“You said in front of everybody I wasn’t yours.”
There.
No escape.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I was angry.”
“At Mom.”
“Yes.”
“So why say about me?”
I had no clean answer.
“Because I used the fact about you to hurt her.”
He stared.
“You used me.”
“Yes.”
That admission mattered.
“I’m sorry.”
He cried.
Then:
“I hate you.”
“I understand.”
I did not say:
You don’t mean that.
He meant it then.
Months later he stopped.
No apology required.
