Chapter 20 - The marriage ends

I filed for divorce three weeks after the banquet.

No reconciliation attempt.

Not because people cannot recover from terrible conduct.

Because protecting Oren required a clear household boundary.

The divorce took longer than I wanted.

Property.

Prenup interpretation.

Residence.

Sabella’s marital rights.

No giant hidden fortune.

She received what the agreement and law provided.

Her own investment accounts remained hers.

Certain marital assets were divided.

No lifetime exile.

No secret Bellucci punishment.

The more complicated question involved Adrian.

Family court determined that my established legal and psychological-parent relationship could not be treated casually.

Matthew was biological father.

I had acted as father for years.

Sabella was mother.

Adrian’s interests came first.

The result:

Matthew began gradual contact.

I retained a continuing legally recognized parental role for a transition period and later through an agreed parentage order specific to the jurisdiction and child’s best interests.

No simple:

DNA says not mine, goodbye.

I had already made enough mistakes with that sentence.
