Chapter 9 - Sabella’s explanation

Sabella gave her statement through counsel.
She denied starving Oren.
Technically, no one alleged prolonged starvation.
She admitted using the service room.
Her explanation:
“Oren becomes disruptive at formal family functions.”
Sometimes true.
“He refuses dinner when upset.”
Sometimes.
“The room was used as a calming environment.”
At first.
Then:
“I locked the door only because he repeatedly left and interfered with adult proceedings.”
There.
Why hide his belongings there?
“For familiarity.”
Why multiple unopened meals?
“He was picky.”
Why call him a bastard?
She denied saying it.
The banquet corridor had audio?
No.
Most cameras recorded video only.
But Oren reported the phrase immediately.
A service employee heard part of it once weeks earlier:
“Real heirs belong with the family.”
Not enough to prove exact wording.
Then Sabella attacked the paternity issue.
She claimed I had always secretly doubted Oren.
False.
She said Catherine had arranged the original test because she had been unfaithful.
Also false.
Catherine could not defend herself.
That enraged me more than almost anything.
Arthur stopped me from responding publicly.
Good.
Dead people should not have to fight through living lawyers.
We had records.
Use records.
May you like
Not rage.
