Chapter 35

That night at the Russo estate, a heavy silence blanketed the grounds, but a fierce storm raged inside Maya’s mind. She tossed and turned, unable to close her eyes. The stranger's vicious threat replayed endlessly, haunting her thoughts. Maya quietly slipped out of the plush bed, put on a thin silk robe, and padded downstairs to the grand living room, where the fireplace still cast a flickering, warm glow.

Painful memories of Elena flooded her mind with terrifying clarity. Elena had been suffocated by this underground world, with its endless vendettas and threats, to the point of staging her own bloody death and leaving her beloved daughter behind just to escape the vice grip. Maya refused to walk down that same tragic path. She also didn't want to tell Dante immediately, fearing his wrath would ignite, forcing him to don his assassin's coat once more and orchestrate a new bloodbath on the streets of Brooklyn.

But as she sat drowning in internal conflict, a pair of warm, broad, and steady arms gently wrapped around her from behind. "What are you worried about, Maya? Your hands are freezing," Dante whispered into her ear, his deep voice carrying a profound, soothing concern.

Maya leaned her head against his solid chest, closing her eyes to listen to the steady, powerful heartbeat of the man who had promised to change his life for her. Ultimately, she realized that true, enduring love must be built on a foundation of absolute honesty. She could not hide things from him the way Elena had. Maya slowly turned around, looked straight into Dante’s pale gray eyes, and recounted every detail about the man with the snake tattoo at the bakery. Instantly, Dante’s eyes darkened. A primal, torrential fury surged in the depths of his gaze, and the air around them seemed to freeze solid.
