Chapter 25 - Anouk stops sleeping near doors

For months, she would not sleep with her bedroom door closed.
Fine.
We left it open.
Then she started hiding snacks inside her nightstand.
Crackers.
Granola bars.
One apple that became an unfortunate biological experiment.
Her therapist said:
“Do not punish the hoarding.”
We created a snack basket.
Always available.
No need to ask.
Then one evening Anouk carried the basket into the hall.
“Don’t need this in room.”
Progress.
She still took Teddy everywhere.
The recorder was removed.
Why?
Because she should not need to document adults in order to deserve belief.
I told her:
“If someone scares you, you can tell me.”
She asked:
“What if you don’t believe?”
I answered:
“Then tell someone else too.”
That was hard to say.
