Chapter 13 - Why I Started Doubting Myself

Ethan rarely said:
“You’re crazy.”
He was smarter.
He said:
“You remember things emotionally.”
Or:
“That’s not what the camera shows.”
Or:
“You always leave out what you did first.”
Sometimes he was correct.
Everyone remembers arguments imperfectly.
That made the manipulation stronger.
If he corrected me accurately three times, I began doubting myself the fourth.
He also kept records.
I did not.
Screenshots.
Audio.
Photographs.
Dates.
A person with organized evidence can look more credible than a person with fear and fragmented memory.
I began believing that.
During one argument I said:
“Maybe I am the problem.”
He answered:
“Finally.”
I remembered that word better than the argument.
May you like
Finally.
As though my surrender was progress.
