Chapter 17 - The Private Investigator

Ethan had also hired a private investigator.
This initially sounded sinister.
The investigator turned out to be one of the more responsible people in the case.
Ethan told him:
“My father-in-law is threatening me.”
The investigator conducted lawful public observation on two occasions.
No trespassing.
No hidden cameras.
No illegal tracking.
He reported:
Subject observed leaving residence, grocery store, veterans’ association meeting, residence.
Nothing threatening.
Ethan became frustrated.
He asked:
“Can you document when he comes near my house?”
The investigator answered:
“If he does.”
Dad did not.
Ethan ended the contract.
Then installed the driveway camera himself.
The investigator later testified that Ethan seemed:
“disappointed there was no escalation to document.”
That sentence stayed with me.
