Chapter 14 - My Therapist’s Notes

I had started therapy six months earlier.
Ethan hated it.
Not openly.
He said:
“I’m glad you’re working on yourself.”
But he repeatedly asked:
“What does she say about me?”
I refused.
Then he began telling Margaret I had:
“entered treatment for emotional instability.”
That was false.
Therapy is not a diagnosis.
My therapist later provided records only through appropriate legal channels and with careful limits.
Her notes showed:
Emily reports increasing fear during arguments.
Emily states husband blocks doors and takes phone.
Emily expresses concern father may confront husband if told.
Emily minimizes physical incidents.
That last line hurt.
Minimizes.

The therapist had seen the pattern before I admitted it.
I just was not ready.
