Chapter 15 - Evelyn’s explanation

Through counsel, Evelyn gave a statement.
She did not deny striking me.
There were too many witnesses.
She claimed:
I insulted her late husband.
I threatened to destroy Ryan.
I tried to “weaponize” my father’s rank.
None was supported by recordings or messages.
Then she said:
“The baton was symbolic.”
My attorney stared at the transcript.
“What does that mean?”
Apparently Evelyn meant she picked it up because she felt:
Her husband’s legacy was being dishonored.

The baton may have been symbolic on the mantel.
Once she struck someone with it, symbolism became less useful.
