Chapter 13 - Lenora believes she was following instructions

Lenora’s defense was infuriating because part of it was true.
She said:
“My son asked me to get Cade over his fear.”
Pierce said:
“I did not tell you to shove him.”
“You knew how I raised you.”
Silence.
Then Lenora:
“You told me not to bring him back until he stopped being scared.”
Pierce:
“I meant work with him.”
“With what? Affirmations?”
“Mom.”
“You survived.”
Pierce stared at her.
That sentence ended something between them.
You survived.
Parents say it as if survival validates method.
Pierce finally answered:
May you like
“I should have had better than survival.”
Lenora looked almost offended.
