Chapter 26 - Greyhaven opens

Eighteen months later, Greyhaven Point reopened under a new name:
Greyhaven Harbor Club.
Pierce invited me to opening weekend.
I said:
“Is Cade expected to do anything?”
“No.”
“Photographs?”
“Only if we all agree.”
“Water?”
“His choice.”
Then I asked Cade.
He wanted to go because:
“They have mini golf.”
Fair.
At opening ceremony, Pierce spoke for six minutes.
No Fenwick family mythology.
No three generations of ocean confidence.
He talked about:
Local jobs.
Accessible programming.
Safety.
Restoration.
Then the junior aquatics director demonstrated life jackets.
One child stood back.
Clearly nervous.
Nobody pushed him.
Nobody removed anything.
Cade watched.
Then whispered:
“He’s scared.”
“Yes.”
“Still gets to be there?”
“Yes.”
May you like
Cade nodded.
That was the point.
