Chapter 23 - Pierce tells Cade the truth

Cade asked:
“Why did you want me not scared?”
Pierce could have said:
Because I wanted you confident.
Too easy.
Instead:
“Because people from my work were watching, and I cared too much what they thought.”
Cade frowned.
“Why?”
“I wanted them to think our family was good at beach things.”
“We are bad at beach things?”
I almost laughed.
Pierce smiled sadly.
“Some of us are good at some beach things.”
“I make castles.”
“Yes.”
“Really good.”
“Very.”
Cade thought.
“Then show them castle.”
Pierce laughed.
May you like
Then cried.
So did I.
