Chapter 8 - The Greyhaven presentation

Greyhaven Point was not just a hotel project.

Pierce wanted to reposition it as:

A multigenerational coastal club.

Boating.

Swimming.

Kayaking.

Youth sailing.

Family beach programming.

The investment presentation emphasized:

“Generational ocean confidence.”

I hated the phrase immediately.

Pierce’s father had sailed.

Pierce sailed.

Lenora sat on the board of an old yacht club.

The Fenwick name carried some local coastal prestige.

So the proposed brand campaign included:

The Fenwick family.

Not as paid models.

As symbolic hosts during an investor weekend.

I had agreed to:

One family lunch.

A property walk.

Some photographs.

I had not agreed to put Cade into water.

Then I saw the itinerary.

Sunday, 10:30 a.m.:

Family Harbor Demonstration — Pierce & Cade Fenwick with Junior Aquatics Team.

My blood went cold.

“Pierce.”

He said:

“It was supposed to be shallow.”

“You scheduled our son into an aquatic demonstration without telling me.”

“It’s paddle boards tethered near shore.”

“He is afraid.”

“That’s why I thought if he got comfortable today—”

I stood.

“You wanted your mother to cure a phobia in one morning so he could perform for investors.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No, I wanted him to have a good experience so tomorrow wouldn’t be stressful.”

May you like

“You put him on the schedule before he had that good experience.”

Pierce had no answer.
