Chapter 6 - My kick

Lenora reported me.
Fair enough.
I had kicked her.
Not some elegant self-defense move.
One hard kick to her hip and upper thigh while she stood near Cade after pushing him.
She lost balance.
Fell backward into shallow water.
Minor bruising.
Scrape on one palm.
No fracture.
Police reviewed beach-club security footage.
The sequence:
Lenora removes vest.
Shoves Cade.
I enter.
Lift Cade.
Lenora steps toward us again while arguing.
I kick.
Was Cade still in immediate danger?
Debatable.
I had him upright.
Lenora was approaching.
No evidence she was about to push him again at that exact second.
My lawyer said:
“You may have a defense-of-child argument, but the force could also be viewed as retaliatory once you had Cade.”
I said:
“I’m not changing the sequence.”
Good.
There would be consequences later.

I could live with that.
What I could not live with was Pierce pretending his role ended before his mother touched Cade.
