Chapter 7 - Pierce wants to call it miscommunication

That night he came to the guest room where Cade and I were staying.

I had moved out of our suite.

Not the resort.

Yet.

Pierce said:

“I never told her to push him.”

“I know.”

He looked relieved.

Mistake.

“I also know you gave a woman who believes fear should be beaten out of children permission to ‘handle him.’”

His jaw tightened.

“That’s not fair.”

“Which part?”

“I thought she would get him into the water gradually.”

“Why didn’t you ask the therapist?”

“Because this weekend is important.”

There.

I said nothing.

Pierce continued.

“I know how that sounds.”

“Do you?”

“Greyhaven decides whether seventy people keep jobs next year.”

“That has nothing to do with Cade being afraid of the ocean.”

He looked away.

“It became part of the weekend.”

“How?”

Silence again.

Then:

“There’s a family activity tomorrow.”

“What family activity?”

May you like

He did not answer.

That was the second secret.
