Chapter 19 - I move into my own place

I rented a one-bedroom apartment.
Then changed my mind.
Bought a small condo.
Two bedrooms.
Elevator.
Balcony.
No yard.
No stairs except emergency exit.
At seventy, I decided convenience was not surrender.
Price:
$312,000.
I paid cash from sale proceeds I still held after Carol’s condo.
No Brian.
No Melissa.
No household bundle.
I paid:
Condo fee.
Utilities.
Insurance.
Groceries.
When Sonia calculated my actual monthly housing costs, I laughed.
They were lower than what Melissa had been charging me.
By nearly two thousand dollars in some months.
I sent Brian nothing.
No joke.
Just:
“I’m settled.”
He replied:
“Can I visit eventually?”
“Yes.”

Not that week.
Eventually.
