Chapter 20 - Brian and Melissa separate

Brian moved into a furnished rental.
He did not ask me to pay.
That was progress.
Why separate?
Not because I ordered him.
Because he discovered:
Melissa had used household charges as a way to smooth over financial gaps without telling him.
He had enjoyed benefits.
But did not know the extent.
She accused him:
“You knew your father helped.”
He answered:
“Helping isn’t the same as billing him through your company.”
Then Brian’s own responsibility.
He had laughed.
Participated in humiliation.
Accepted gifts.
Never checked why Dad seemed to pay for everything.
A separation did not transform him into victim.
He began therapy.
His lawyer advised him to stop making financial statements until divorce or reconciliation decisions were clearer.
