Chapter 9 - Melissa had a merchant account problem

My bank froze further recurring charges.
Then the payment processor placed Melissa’s business under review because I disputed multiple transactions.
Not shut down permanently.
Review.
Melissa had other clients.
Real ones.
Her company was legitimate.
She organized:
Move-ins.
Contractors.
Holiday decorating.
Estate sales.
Home maintenance.
She earned money.
Then processor asked:
Why was one cardholder being charged variable recurring amounts substantially above the written authorization?
Melissa responded:
“Customer verbally approved additional monthly services.”
Then:
What services?
She produced invoices.
Then:
Why was mortgage participation billed through a home-services merchant account?
That question hurt her.
A merchant account is not inherently prohibited from billing housing-related services.
But descriptions and consumer authorization matter.
The processor suspended her ability to run my card.
Not her whole company initially.
Then two other clients disputed charges after hearing about my case through family gossip.
One dispute was rejected.

One remained.
The scandal widened beyond what anyone intended.
