Chapter 11 - Vanessa’s Version

Vanessa believed I had turned Lily against discipline.

She said so directly.

“You make everything fun.”

“I’m her grandfather.”

“You let her have dessert before dinner.”

Once.

“I have photographic evidence.”

“You’re ridiculous.”

“This is exactly what I mean.”

She continued:

“Michael would not want her raised without boundaries.”

Using her dead husband’s name ended the conversation temporarily.

Then I returned to the point.

“Boundaries are not the issue.”

“What is?”

“You are documenting ordinary three-year-old behavior as pathology whenever it occurs near my visits.”

Her face hardened.

“You think you know her better than I do?”

“No.”

That answer surprised her.

“I think you know her deeply. I also think you want Seattle badly enough that you’re seeing evidence through that desire.”

She stood.

“Get out.”

May you like

I did.

Boundaries work both ways.
