Chapter 5 - The Therapist

Lily had a child therapist.

Dr. Nora Jennings.

Not because Lily had been diagnosed with some severe disorder.

Because her father died and Vanessa wanted grief support as Lily became old enough to ask questions.

Good decision.

The problem was what Vanessa told the therapist.

With proper legal authorization during the later custody dispute, records were reviewed.

One note:

Mother reports significant behavioral escalation following maternal-grandfather contact.

Another:

Mother reports child returns from grandfather’s residence oppositional and aggressive.

Another:

Mother reports grandfather disregards rules and encourages child to view mother as punitive.

I had never seen any of that.

Dr. Jennings had never interviewed me.

Why would she?

Vanessa was the parent.

Then one note became especially important.

Mother exploring possible relocation for employment opportunity with partner. Concerned grandfather contact may be contributing to instability.

Relocation.

No one had told me.
