Chapter 8 - The Backyard Camera

The patio camera was part of the home security system.

Vanessa thought it had been disabled.

Why?

Because she had asked Daniel to turn off backyard recording months earlier.

She said she felt watched.

Reasonable concern.

Daniel disabled cloud notifications and live-view shortcuts.

He did not physically disable local recording on the network video recorder.

He apparently misunderstood what she wanted.

The camera continued saving motion-triggered clips locally.

The patio incident was recorded.

No audio for most of it.

But video was enough.

Lily walking.

Butterfly near the planter.

Lily reaching.

Pot tipping.

Lily immediately stepping backward in surprise.

No tantrum.

No kicking.

No throwing.

Vanessa approaching.

Pointing down.

Lily kneeling.

Twice trying to rise.

Twice Vanessa stepping forward.

Daniel standing nearby.

Laughing once.

Then Lily looking toward the gate.

Then me entering.

The footage did not prove months of manipulation.

It proved that one event had been described inaccurately almost immediately.

That gave the court reason to examine the broader pattern carefully.
