Chapter 21 - Vanessa Apologizes to Lily

The therapist helped Vanessa prepare.
No dramatic adult explanation.
No:
Mommy was stressed because Grandpa sued me.
A three-year-old did not need that.
Vanessa sat with Lily.
Said:
“When the flower pot fell, Mommy made you stay on the patio.”
Lily nodded.
“It cold.”
“Yes.”
“I should not have made you kneel there.”
Lily looked at her.
“Why?”
“Because I was angry and I made a bad choice.”
“Pot bad?”
“No.”
“Me bad?”
Vanessa’s face broke.
“No.”
Then:
“You are not bad.”
Lily stared.
“Trouble?”
“No.”
Daniel was not present.
Good.
Mother and daughter needed a conversation that did not include his defense.
Lily asked:
“Can butterfly come?”
Vanessa laughed through tears.
“If it wants.”
