Chapter 22 - Daniel Steps Back

Daniel stopped disciplining Lily for several months.
By agreement.
He could:
Protect safety.
Help routines.
Offer choices.
But major discipline belonged to Vanessa while family therapy clarified roles.
At first he resented it.
“I’m expected to help raise her but have no authority?”
The therapist answered:
“You have influence. Authority develops through relationship and legal reality.”
He disliked that.
Then gradually understood.
One evening Lily spilled cereal.
Daniel inhaled.
Then said:
“Let’s get a towel.”
That was all.
Vanessa noticed.
No lecture.
No spreadsheet entry.
A spill became a spill.
