Chapter 13 - Preschool

The preschool records damaged Vanessa’s narrative.

Teachers liked Lily.

She had normal age-three difficulties.

Sharing.

Transitions.

Occasional hitting when frustrated.

Crying at drop-off.

Nothing extraordinary.

The director wrote:

No significant pattern of aggression or property destruction observed.

Then:

Behavior following grandfather weekends is not meaningfully different from other Mondays.

That sentence mattered.

Teachers had no reason to defend me.

Most barely knew me.

Their records simply did not match Vanessa’s description.

One teacher did note:

Child occasionally says “I’m trouble” after mistakes.

That concerned everyone.

When asked where she heard it, Lily gave inconsistent answers.

Daniel.

Mommy.

TV.

At three, no one treated her as a precise witness.

May you like

Correctly.

The pattern mattered more than one phrase.
